  • 9/7/2011 This note from Gordon Ridley '68:  "I note in browsing these pages that one entry mentioned Mr. Baker and Mr. Aune. The former was our 7th grade science teacher and is best known for inventing the "Rac-owl". An amateur taxidermist, Mr. Baker combined the body of an owl, the head of a racoon and the legs/feet of a racoon. He placed it in a visible location in the classroom and mostly wanted to watch parents' reactions to it on parent nite. He told us many took a second look but then acted like it was a completely normal creature. 50 years ago and this I remember, in addition, of course to the solid scientific foundation he provided for us. Mr. Aune(pretty sure), was our eighth grade social studies teacher, the school year of President Kennedy's assasination and the Beatles invasion. Gordon Ridley '68"

  • 8/5/2011 This note from George and Shirley Aune (Faculty):  "Hey CHHS ALUMNI COMMITTEE.... Shirley & I enjoyed the reunion last Saturday. Good planning....good execution and much fun. It was interesting to see and visit some of our former students....Class of 62 & 63 & 64 & 65. And to visit with former colleagues. I was there for six hours!! And the food and beverages were tasty and served without waiting!  I hope that financially your budgeting came out o.k. And we look forward to another get-together in a few years.  I think we were the "oldest of the faculty"....maybe Howard Baker is older.....or Armand Vigna??  Best wishes to you...members of the committee....and to CHHS alumni. (Your website is also great!)  by the way......Dennis Miller....president of the class of 62? Any idea where he may be? If you do, let me know.
George Aune & Shirley (Shank) Aune."

  • 8/03/2011 This note from Marilyn Glud (Faculty): "Congratulations to all who worked so hard to make the reunion such a huge success! I had such a great time seeing and talking to so many of my former students and fellow teachers. I felt like time had stood still, and I was a young teacher again. Even though I stayed for about three hours, it wasn't long enough, and the time just flew by. I am only sorry that I had to leave early, because there were so many more people that I wish I could have connected with. Also,a special thanks to my "Class of '73" who made me feel so welcome. I will never forget the four years I spent with you, and you will always have a special place in my heart."

  • 8/3/2011 This note from Shawn Seibold '72:  "I have not seen or heard from ANYBODY since I graduated.  Anybody care to drop a line and fill me in on every little detail of your life I AM ALL EARS! shawnrocksseibold@comcast.net

  • 7/31/2011 This note from Bill Reed '65:  "I want to thank everybody that was involved with making the 2011 reunion a huge success. I have not been able to make any reunions since I graduated in 1965. I enjoyed seeing all of my classmates after 46 long years. I will make sure that I attend all of the reunions from now on. To the Class of 65, you are all beautiful and wonderful people! Again thanks to everybody involved."

  • 7/31/2011 This note from Irene Gill-Andzelewski '67:  "FABULOUS Reunion! Thank you to those responsible for such a grand affair !!"

  • 7/24/2011 This note from Dick & Betty Jo McNally (Faculty) "As it is looking today, Dick and I will not be able to attend the CHHS Alumni reunion. We are disappointed and was excited and looking forward to seeing all Dick's students he had for many years as their coach and English teacher. The teachers were like a family, they really worked together well. Dick has kept in touch with most of them and enjoys keeping up with the news they share back and forth. We know a lot of planning and work goes into these projects and hopefully you get a high turnout because of it. God Bless You All.
    Yours friendly,
    Betty Jo McNally"

  • 7/23/2011 Sally (Friedrich) Elliott Memorial  This note from CHHS Chairperson Debbie Troyer-Stone:

There is a Memorial for Sally (Friedrich) Elliott planned for Mon Aug 1st.
Guardian Lutheran Church at 11am
24544 Cherry Hill, Dearborn MI

Luncheon planned for 1pm at the American Legion Post at 3001 S Telegraph, Dearborn, MI It is located between Carlysle & Michigan Ave. If you are planning to attend I would appreciate knowing so I am able to pass that information on to her Sons, Todd & Chris........
Sally was a near & dear friend of mine, she will be sadly missed by many..... she & I became very close over the years when working on the first CHHS Reunion I started for the Classes of the 60's & 70's in 2002. You all meant very much to her and she gladly took on the task to try and bring you all together once again like she had in the past, but this time on a much larger scale.......reuniting you with other Graduating class yrs from CHHS. You may remember an email she sent out to a lot of you that she had email addresses for on June 14th, 2002......I find it quite ironic that Sally wrote that email all most exactly nine (9) years before she once again joined her soulmate Terry in Heaven .
Sally also shared that email with me, which once again I would like to share with you......

"While helping Debbie (Troyer) Stone work on this reunion, I was saddened to find out we had lost three more of our classmates in the last year.
It made me think about the memories & friendships I cherish from my school years. Memories of a classmate who wrote a poem to his mother who had passed away, or the day I skipped school with friends....Cider, donuts, and a unfortunate bee sting, working on the homecoming float, & the field trip to Ann Arbor...sitting on the bus with someone I didn't really know-talking & making a new friend.
Please don't let graying hair, no hair, or extra pounds keep you away. We have all aged. You may reconnect with someone who made a special memory for you or a memory of you may have made a difference in someone else's life. Life is so short & friendships we have made are so precious.
The reuniting of 18 graduating classes may never happen again.
Please try to attend. Your being there may mean something to others attending
Sally (Friedrich) Elliott"

In Honor of Sally and what it meant to her to have you all together I surely hope you will try your best to attend the Reunion next weekend, and most of all her Memorial on Monday......... In words I just received recently from Joe Grasley, former faculty member of CHHS, remember this please!
"Yesterday is history, you can't change it, tomorrow is a mystery, anything can happen, so live for today, it is a gift, that is why they call it the "present". Life is Good. "
I hope to hear back from many of you to let me know that I, along with Sally's Family will be seeing you on Monday!! and hopefully the Reunion...
Take care & God Bless,
Debbie Troyer-Stone

  • 10/04/2010 This note from Donald Goff '75:  "I am hoping someone can fill in the lost years between around 1978-to the time of his passing. Danny Alford was a close friend of mine, we grew up together, were neighbors and buddies. Last time I talked to him he'd come out to Arizona to hangout. He spent about a month here then went back to Michigan, never heard from him again. I've often wondered where he ended up, with who, and now that he's gone what was the cause of his death. He was a young man. I think about him and the good times we had. Its sad knowing he's gone, God must of had other plans for Danny.  Anyone with any information I would like to hear from you. Thx. • 9/2/2010  Share List:  To date, nearly 400 of or alumni and faculty have provided authorization for the committee to share their contact information on request, an outstanding number and all-time high since we started keeping these records!  Check out the share list on the "Share" tab and consider adding your name to it.  The rules for sharing are simple: The Alumni Association will only provide email or postal address of persons who have said it is ok to do so.  You may ask for somebody's contact info if your name is also on the list and you MUST be a former CHHS classmate or faculty member.  Anyone who wishes to be added to the list must check the "yes" box at the bottom of the "Update Your Info" page when you fill it out.  If you have already provided your updated info you need not fill out the entire form again, only name and class year.

  • 8/31/2010  Reunion Planning Update:  As some of you may have heard, the Cherry Hill School of Performing Arts (our High School building) has closed due to a change in their Charter.  The people involved have indicated to us that the facilities will most likely be leased for this school year (2010/2011) and reopen under a new Charter the following year. Also, the person whom we were previously dealing has retired so we will be dealing with a new person in securing the property.  We are still very hopeful that we will be able to hold our reunion at the school as in the past, but they cannot confirm our request at this time.  We anticipate receiving confirmation sometime in October.  In the mean time, we have one of our committee persons looking for a suitable alternate location in the event we are unable to use the school property.  We are still moving forward with a goal of the latter part of July 2011.  This minor delay will not hinder our planning ability but we are disappointed that we cannot give you a confirmed date and place.

  • 8/31/2010  This note from Tom Flavin '71  "Suzy, my deceased wife and I, had four children. Three years after cancer took Suzy's life, I married Judy. She had five grown sons. Now, we have a total of nine children and nine grandchildren. Judy is a Texan so we spend time there with her kids.  When they all come to Catoosa, we have people eating and sleeping and visiting all over our home. One of Judy's sons has a farm, so we get plenty of the outdoors and are free menial labor in Texas. We are looking forward to being with this mob as long as they want us and need us.  Judy teaches college English and I work in the Hydraulic industry keeping oil companies happy."

I'd be willing to purchase the jacket if you are willing to part with it.  Any jacket I hang will also have the name of the person who wore it, their years, and the sports they played.  Cherry Hill is now a charter school and the majority of students are bussed in from Detroit.  We have over a thousand students K-12.  The elementary is housed in A hall and B hall, middle school in D hall, and the high school in D,E,F,and H halls.  I'm really enjoying my teaching experience here. • 8/5/09  Today we regret to report to passing of our classmate Russell WardFrom his sister, Marilyn Ward-Schmidt '76, we received the following:  "I wanted to inform you that my brother, Russ Ward passed away on July 29, 2009 very suddenly.  He had a stroke about 7 years ago and had recovered pretty well from that.  He was living in Pinckney with our mother since the stroke.  He was delivering pizza's for a living since the stroke.  Anyway, even though he was on high blood pressure medicine, it was not really under control.  He died on the way to the hospital, we think it was either another stroke or heart attack.  He was 53 years old.  FYI.  The funeral has already taken place on 8/1/09.  If you want more details, let me know."  Marilyn can be contacted at mward_schmidt@yahoo.com

  • 3/2/09 From the Webmaster.  "Today I added a new page called "Go Spartans".  It was intended, after some suggestions, to post something related to our team sports.  I am asking for content help on this page from anyone who may have been involved with any of  our Spartan teams including former faculty.  If you have any ideas or suggestions, photos or memories to share, please contact me thru the feedback page.  We have also been looking for someone, perhaps a former band member, who may have decent copy (recording) of the Spartan Fight Song for an addition to this site.  Contribution credits will be given on the page."
